Parental and Grandparent Sponsorship Draw Results Announced for 2017

After a [very] long wait, starting today through May 8th, the IRCC will send emails to candidates who entered the online draw for 2017. 10,000 people will be invited to apply out of approximately 95,000 that were in the draw. In total, up to 20,000 parents and grandparents will get permanent residence.

Candidates will receive an email to notify them if they are invited to apply or not invited to apply. Make sure you check your junk/spam folder and you add IRCC and NePasRepondre-DoNotReply@cic.gc.ca to your safe sender email list.

Many candidates were confused today as the IRCC sent out 2 emails. The second email stated: "This is a resend of an earlier email from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada which unfortunately did not include your name. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Candidates who received this email shouldn't worry- they are still invited to apply. The second email was sent to include the candidates name which the first email did not. The second email was sent to the benefit of Immigration Consultants and Lawyers who use a single company email address to enter multiple candidates into the draw on behalf of clients. The IRCC quickly realized their error of omitting the candidates name and soon followed up with a second email which included the candidates name.

If you were one of the few candidates fortunate enough to be selected, you only have 90 days to gather all documents and prepare an application for submission. Don't risk delays or refusals on your application- it was challenging enough to be invited to apply. Our firm can provide assistance with preparing your parental sponsorship application. While individuals are permitted to prepare the application themselves, we encourage candidates to retain professional help to ensure a successful application. Retain our firm to help you prepare a sponsorship application and re-unite you with your parents or grandparents. Let us help you make Canada home.

Please ensure you are in fact eligible to apply and meet the financial requirements to sponsor.

To be eligible to sponsor:

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • You must be 18 years of age or older

  • You must meet or exceed the minimum necessary income requirement for Family Sponsorship

  • You must sign an undertaking agreement that commits you to provide financial support for your sponsored parents or grandparents and repay any provincial social assistance benefits paid to the sponsored family members for 20 years.

  • If the sponsor lives in Quebec, an additional undertaking agreement must be signe

Sponsors must provide Notices of Assessment from the CRA to IRCC to prove that they meet the minimum necessary income requirement.

If you do not qualify for Parental PR sponsorship because you do not meet the MNI for the 3 year period, you can apply for a Super Visa as the income required is only for 1 year and it is about 30% lower. Read more on Super Visa.
