A recent global survey published by Passport Index indicates the Canadian passport has visa-free access to 158 countries around the globe. The benefit of such a ranking is that Canadian passport holders can travel freely to the majority of countries around the world without the need of applying for a visa ahead of time.

The Passport Index groups countries into tiers according to the number of visa-free countries a passport can access. Canada has moved up one rank in 2018, to tier 5 to join the United States, Switzerland and Ireland. This helps Canadians with Global mobility and hassle-free travel around the world.
