Associate Immigration Lawyer

Matkowsky Immigration Law is a highly reputable, and client-focused law firm practicing exclusively in the area of immigration law. Our firm specializes in helping clients with more difficult immigration matters such as Judicial Review, Appeals, Response to Procedural Fairness Letters, re-application after a refusal of a visa.

 

Our firm is currently seeking an Associate Lawyer with at least 1+ years of immigration experience to join our growing firm.

Salary (commensurate with experience)  + discretionary bonus + commission on retained clients (5% - 20%) + health / life insurance

Requirements:

  • Licensed with the Law Society of Ontario

  • 1+ years of Immigration Experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and balance competing interests

  • Self-starter with the ability to conduct legal research in an effective and efficient manner

Job Duties:

  • Providing assessments to identify eligible candidates and learn how our firm can help a client

  • Opportunity to answer calls, retain clients and earn a commission (5% - 20%)

  • Researching the processes and requirements for different types of applications

  • Preparing submission packages for both basic and complex cases and submitting to various government agencies (e.g., Employment and Social Development Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada etc.)

  • Provide assistance with the client intake process and respond to both basic and complex client inquiries by e-mail and/or telephone to ensure that applications are processed and any obstacles are anticipated and dealt with

  • Performing various administrative duties including, but not limited to organizing and managing files

  • Delegate, prioritize and review workflow, including, coordination of the application process, daily reviews, monthly planning, maintaining the “bring forward” system and file management

  • Daily review of submission packages for both basic and complex cases to various government agencies (e.g., Employment and Social Development Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada etc.)

  • Effectively communicate with clients regarding procedural and case processing issues, identify client immigration solutions and understand current client activity

  • Analyze, track and record all client specific processes and procedures

  • Participate in office-wide projects, including training and process improvement

  • Stay up to date with developments in immigration law

  • Understand existing fee agreements and established billing practices

  • Other duties may be assigned as required

Compensation:

 

  • Salary (commensurate with experience)

  • Fixed percentage commission based on clients retained from our firm's internal leads
